Cryptozoological Realms

About This Site

Well its been just little over a year since I've updated this page and still haven't done much with the site either, been busy. Still have hit my mark of having a list of 100 animals on the site, maybe some century. In 2000 started working on a Zoology degree so with that, working full time, church, etc. haven't had much time to work on the site. Hopefully that will change soon and with one section in particular as I'll be doing some major field work this year. So I'll be able to update the site with my own research which is exciting. On the the dates listed for page up date, I'm now following the ISO standard of year-month-day (YYYY-MM-DD).

I know its been eons since I've updated this page so here it goes. Got a domain name for the site which is www.cryptozoologicalrealms.com. Also a couple of other domain names www.mokelembembe.com, www.cryptozoology.net, and www.scottnorman.com. Started testing out using FileMaker Pro databases on this site. Now using Dreamweaver 3 to code this site. Also have made some structural changes and showy, very slowly adding new animals.

I've added three new sections: Reflections on Cryptozoology, where I plan on putting up articles on cryptozoology that interest me and that people will allow me to put up; Cryptozoology Library, a section for listing books, articles, etc. by topic, and Cryptozoology Researchers, a listing of people interested in cryptozoology and any research they are doing. Both the Library and the Researchers will also include on Online FileMaker Pro Databases since I now working with a company on their Internet servers and have access to do this. Sometime in the future I will also probably mirror my site on that server also. I know, I know, when are more animals coming. Soon, I've gotten sidetracked with the databases and will start adding animals after finishing the databases.

As I have mentioned earlier on this page, I wanted to try to have a 100 animals up on this site by the middle of 1998, but it probably won't happen. I'm also switching over from Nisus Writer to BBEdit for editing my web site. Nisus Writer is a great program and I still use it for writing but will be using BBEdit for HTML coding. I definitely recommend Nisus Writer if you have a Mac, its not available on other platforms.

Due to some problems with not having enough hard disk space, I've temporarily have disabled the detailed pages (i.e. description, habitat, etc.) for animals. I have left the overview and the reference pages in place. As I had planned, my goal was to put up overview and reference pages first then add more detailed information later. Also the information on the detailed pages was an exact duplicate of the information on the overview page so there is not reason to have the detailed pages right now.

Why does this site exist? I started this site about a year and half ago to learn how to do web pages and at the same time to learn more about cryptozoology. The original idea was just to do a page on Mokele-mbembe but then I decided to tackle cryptozoology in general. A big subject to tackle but it is coming along slowly but surely.

The content for this site has been lacking for last the last year, in that it only has dealt with five animals, but that is changing. The update to the site as of January 1, 1998 is in preparation to add more animal pages to the site. The tentative goal is to add up to a 100 animal overview pages with some basic information and a couple of references by mid-1998. Then I will come back and add more detailed information on the animals, while still adding more animal overview pages.

The goal of this site is to make it a one stop cryptozoology reference site. You should be able to come to this site and get a quick overview on the animal and hopefully every type of possible reference (i.e. web sites, books, magazine articles, videos, etc.) on that animal. Plus more detail information too in the future. This won't happen over night, but hopefully down the road this will be achieved. This site will also be available in French, German, Spanish, and Swedish in the future too.

This site was designed on a Apple Macintosh computer and designed to run on a 640x480 screen. Software used to create this site: Nisus Writer, Adobe PageMill, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator.

If you would like to help out with this site in the creation and maintenance of animals pages, submitting references, translating to one of the current languages or start another language, proofing spelling and grammar, or anything else, please e-mail Scott T. Norman at scott@cryptozoology.net.

In the future I will add to this page or a separate page all the people who are helping out with this site. Special thanks to Bill Rebsamen, Rémi Pach, and Dr. Karl Shuker who have encouraged me to keep this site going.
