CAPE TEAM TO PROBE SA'S (South Africa's) OWN "NESSIE"

BISHO - The Eastern Cape government is planning to send a team to the Mzintlava River near Mount Ayliff to investigate villagers' claims that a half-fish half-horse creature is killing people in the area. Agriculture and Land Affairs MEC Ezra Sigwela reported the villagers' claims about the monster, or "Mamlambo" to the provincial legislature in Bisho on Tuesday.

He said villagers in the area were terrified of the beast, believed to have the torso of a horse and the lower body of a fish. Sigwela said villagers claimed the beast had killed seven people who were trying to cross the Mzintlava River in recent months.

Eastern Cape tourism and environmental affairs official Maria Mbengashe said the team would report back in mid-May.

Department spokesman Khulile Radu said he believed the creature was a dinosaur, if it existed. "It's difficult to say with these mythical stories. It would be wonderful if we could have our own Loch Ness monster." - Sapa.

It is unknown what type of animal Mamlambo is, if it is an actual animal.Villagers of the area claim that is has the torso of a horse and the lower body of a fish.
